π¨ Flesh-Eating Parasite Near U.S. Border Raises Alarm π

A dangerous flesh-eating parasite capable of infecting both livestock and humans has been detected just miles from the U.S. border, sparking serious concern among Texas officials.
The New World screwworm, a fly whose larvae feed on living tissue, was recently confirmed in Nuevo LeΓ³n, Mexico about 90 miles from Texas. Officials warn the threat is no longer distant, but rapidly approaching.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller called the situation βimminent,β stressing that there is little time to act as the parasite continues moving north from South America. Just last year, it was detected roughly 400 miles from the border.
Experts say the larvae burrow into flesh, causing severe and often deadly damage to animals. While livestock are the primary target, humans can also be infected, leading to painful wounds and infestations in open sores.
Despite efforts to contain it, officials say the spread has not been successfully stopped.
Ranchers are being urged to stay alert and monitor livestock closely, as even small delays could have serious consequences.
