Sheriff Deputies Kill Homeless Man They Say Stabbed K-9

Traffic is still being diverted on highway 99 southbound north of Turner Rd.

The San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office has released the following statement:

“At approximately 5:00 AM deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road near HWY 99 and E Frontage Rd and stopped to make contact with the driver.

During the stop deputies found that the driver had a warrant out for his arrest. When asked to exit the vehicle the driver refused. Deputies attempted numerous protocols for a peaceful surrender. Shortly after 6:00 AM the suspect exited his vehicle with a knife in his hand, ultimately resulting in the suspect stabbing our K9 in the face and an officer involved shooting.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for his injuries. Our detectives are on scene. We ask that you please avoid the area. More information to follow.”
