2nd Police Officers Kills a Pedestrian on G St in 3 Days

MERCED- Three days after a patrol officer hit and killed a woman on G St, a second patrol officer has killed a man on G St and 18th St. The officer was responding to the call of that pedestrian being hit by another vehicle and ran over the victim who was in the street.

Merced PD has released the following statement:

“MPD, CHP Officers Investigating Pedestrian Fatality
April 10, 2022

Merced- At about 5:12 this morning, Merced police officers responded to a report of a pedestrian vs. vehicle collision on G Street, just north of 18th St. It was ultimately determined that the driver of a 2005 Infinity sedan had struck the unidentified adult male pedestrian in the No. 1 lane while traveling southbound. The pedestrian came to rest in the traffic lane, and the driver pulled into a nearby alley.

Tragically, a Merced Police patrol unit arriving on the scene struck the victim from the original collision. Ambulance personnel on the scene rendered medical aid, but the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Merced Police Traffic officers are investigating the initial collision, and the CHP officers are investigating the secondary event involving the responding MPD unit.

The Merced police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of the CHP investigation and the administrative investigation conducted by the Merced Police Department.

The prev incident involved a woman pedes being hit by a patrol officer was caught on film.

Fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Collision

Merced – On Thursday, April 7th, at approximately 10:01 pm, an on-duty Merced police officer driving a marked patrol unit struck a female pedestrian walking in the roadway in the 1400 block of G Street. The unidentified female was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic collision while the Merced Police Department conducts the Administrative Investigation. The Officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation(s).
