2nd Officer Involved Shooting For Modesto PD In 2 Days

MODESTO- A police officer shot a suspect today inside the Walgreens on McHenry after a traffic stop according to a statement released from MPD:

“Uniformed MPD Officers conducted a traffic stop near Roseburg and McHenry Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. today.

A passenger from the stopped vehicle walked from the car into the Walgreens store where customers were shopping. Officers went in to investigate and contacted the male who immediately fled from officers. During the chase through the store, they noticed he was in possession of a handgun. An officer involved shooting occurred.

MPD Detectives and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office are conducting independent investigations which is standard procedure.

A photo of the gun recovered from this incident is included with this release”.


This was the second shooting involving the department in as many days. Yesterday officers also shot a double homicide suspect in Stockton at Sherwood Park. MPD released the following statement yesterday:

“October 20, 2020: MPD Involved in Officer Involved Shooting with Homicide Suspect

Following Friday’s double homicide on Semple Street, investigators have continued to work tirelessly to identify and apprehend the person responsible. The investigation led to the identification of a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Around 12 p.m. this afternoon, the suspect was found near Sherwood Way and Banbury Drive in the City of Stockton, CA. The suspect was armed with a gun and the contact resulted in an officer involved shooting involving Modesto Police Department’s Officers.

The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. We do not have an update on his condition at this time.

The Stockton Police Department, San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office and Department of Justice will conduct independent investigations which is procedure for San Joaquin County.

No officers were injured during this incident.

We have no further updates at this time”.
