Meet the Back to Back Pi Champ of Lincoln Unified School District π«
Every year LUSD hosts a pi competition where students get to recite as many numbers of pi 3.14 they can. Pi (π) represents the constant ratio of a circleβs circumference (perimeter) to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159β¦. It is an irrational and transcendental number, meaning its decimal representation never ends or repeats. Pi is essential for calculating the area, volume, and dimensions of circles, spheres, and cylinders.
The competition happens on March 14th, 3/14 to represent 3.14. In 2025, Ocelotzin Sanchez, a 5th grader recited pi to an amazing 347 digits! This year the competition shortened the total number of digits on the test sheet to 202 digits and he defended his title by being the only student to complete the entire sheet.
When heβs not knocking math out of the park, the 6th grader loves partaking in his favorite sport and perfecting his spiral throwing a football. π Congrats to this young student making excellence a habit. ππ½ #pi #math #stockton #209strong #champion
