FORMER STOCKTON DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF FIRED IN MASSIVE RENO POLICE SHAKEUP AMID CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION

Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance, a former Deputy Chief with the Stockton Police Department, has now been fired along with two other senior Reno police officials following an investigation that reportedly includes both administrative and criminal probes.

Multiple Nevada news outlets report that the Nevada Attorney General’s Office has been conducting a criminal investigation for weeks alongside a separate administrative investigation involving Reno Police Department leadership.

According to reports, the investigations focus on allegations tied to police training and certification records, including claims that POST-related training documentation may have been falsified or improperly certified.

Nance, who spent roughly 25 years with the Stockton Police Department before becoming Reno’s police chief in 2023, was initially placed on administrative leave with five other command-level officials earlier this year before now being terminated.

Officials have still not publicly announced criminal charges, but reports indicate the Nevada Department of Public Safety and the Nevada Attorney General’s Office are both involved in ongoing investigations.

The allegations have reportedly shaken law enforcement circles in northern Nevada because they involve Reno PD’s highest levels of leadership and questions surrounding officer training compliance and certification integrity.

This remains a developing story.
