STOCKTON- At the Stockton city council February 26, 2019 the crowd got unruly when Mayor Michael Tubbs refused to let members of the audience concede their time to speak for a Black Lives Matter speaker whose lost her son to a Stockton Police Officer involved shooting. Tubbs cut her off at the end of 3:00 after she returned a check he donated. As the Councilmembers discuss “options” with the city attorney for limiting public participation, another woman in the audience objects. She’s ordered to be escorted out as Tubbs ridicules her repeatedly telling her “take your meds next week”. The woman he said that to has lost a daughter to violence in Stockton.

They need to take a lesson from teachers. Draw a strong line on behavior expectations immediately and don’t waffle at all. Don’t allow people who rudely interrupt another speaker to remain period. Maybe give one warning, but then escort them out immediately. You quickly train an audience that no rudeness and disruption will be tolerated and they know you’ll follow through. All teachers learn quickly, that behavior is #1 before you can teach or in this case hold a community meeting and govern. Set your standards and follow through. The mayor needs to learn that put downs like “take your meds next time” also contribute to a poor, disrespectful environment. You can’t expect respect if you aren’t giving it.
James you're a joke! is Mayor tubbs a physician? Is he her physician? Does he know what medication she takes if any? Does he know the medication in questions intervals and schedule? Does he know for sure that she did not take it? If the answer is 'no' to any of those questions --and I'm sure it's no to all of them, then what he said was out of pocket. Clearly he said that in a dismissive manner. That's not what you want from a leader!

He needs some education regarding working with all types of personalities.. He needs to reevaluate his position and step down he obviously has not made Stockton any more desirable place to live...
