STOCKTON- Early this morning at 4:58am firefighters were dispatched to fight a large fire on Market Street near downtown Stockton. The flames of the five alarm fire were so high they could be seen from as far away as Lodi and Tracy. Next to the fire was St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church.

It was an all hands fire at the pallet yard with mutual aid from County Departments. Water supply was a challenge, but firefighters made a good stop saving St. Gertrude’s Church as well as numerous other businesses.

No cause for the fire has been stated. While that fire was raging, three other fires near homeless areas were also reported including this one on Hazleton and Stanislaus Streets.
Arson hasn’t increased 161% since 2017 in Stockton. No word from the mayor who’s only tweeted about hosting an outside agency for his Reinvent Stockton nonprofit despite promising to address homelessness.
