EARTH- In a seminal moment for human history, astronomers have released the first ever image of a black hole.
In a publication combining the research of six studies and co-authored by 200 experts from 60 different institutions and published Wednesday in Astrophysical Journal Letters, astronomers say the black hole is larger than our entire solar system and the light seen around the “hole” is heated gas being drawn into its gravitational pull and brighter than all the billions of stars in the galaxy combined. The image was produced from a combination of 8 different telescopes around the globe quilting together different bits of it from April of 2017.
