Modesto PD Released Video Of Them Killing Unarmed Man 12/29/2020

MODESTO- Police have released the bodycam footage of an officer involved shooting that occurred 12/29/2020. No weapon was present. This is the officer’s fourth shooting now. Along with the video they released the following statement:

“On Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at approximately 11:30 am, Modesto Police Department Officers responded to the 2300 block of Woodland Avenue after receiving a call from a female stating her brother, 29-year-old Trevor Seever, told the family that he bought a gun the night before and was now texting the family making vague threats and stated he was on his way to their home.

Additional information was provided that Mr. Seever was on foot and had last been seen walking westbound Woodland Avenue towards The Church of the Brethren at 2301 Woodland Avenue.

Officer Joseph Lamantia, a 12-year veteran with the Modesto Police Department, was the first to arrive at the church. Shortly after Officer Lamantia arrived, Mr. Seever was located and an officer involved shooting occurred.

Mr. Seever was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

During a search of the scene, no gun was located.

The officer involved in this shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure with all officer involved shootings.

Three separate and independent investigations have been launched into this incident. The Modesto Police Department is conducting both a criminal and an administrative investigation and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of this incident.

  1. So this is what our police do now? Shoot first then shoot again when their hands are up? This is great I knew they were bad but this is a new low.

  2. Really??? The dude wasn’t even clearly in the video. Meaning I doubt he was being any active threat to the police or the safety of by standers. This officer needs to be let go from the police force forever. You don’t just shoot someone and kill them because you “ think “ they have a gun. If you cannot see it and you cannot tell if they have a weapon keep your distance and wait for back up. This is disgusting to watch. The victim wasn’t being violent or acting with rage as you can see in the video. He was obviously already shot on the ground bleeding out for 5 minutes when the officer was sitting behind the tree. This is just hard to watch. I am disgusted and I really hope this family gets justice. It’s sad that police don’t help defuse situations and keep everyone safe it’s just easier to shoot and kill.
