CALIFORNIA- According to recent data published by AAA the average gas price for a gallon in California has exceeded $4 a gallon, about 30 cents higher than the same time last year. When compared to the rest of the nation, California’s prices are much higher. Last year voters passed Prop 6, a gas tax initiative to add onto the other gas taxes California drivers already pay. While it was promised to voters that the money raised would go towards fixing the state’s roads and highways, Governor Newsom wants to divert that money for other projects like housing and threatened to withhold all tax revenues raised from the gas tax to cities that don’t meet his requirements for building new real estate developments. The data from AAA can be accessed here.
