STOCKTON- San Joaquin County Sheriff Deputy Crashes Into Car For Unknown Reason , Kills Infant.

Per CHP: “On 12/14/2919, at approximately 2238 hours Party #1 (P-1) was driving Vehicle #1 (V-1, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle) on I-5 N/B south of Charter Way in the #3 lane. Party #2 (P-2) was driving Vehicle #2 (V-2, Ford sedan) on I-5 N/B south of Charter Way in the #3 lane. For unknown reasons, that are currently under investigation, P-1 collided with the rear of V-2. The impact between V-1 and V-2 forced V-2 from the traffic lanes and down the east embankment. P-1 responded to V-2 and extricated an infant from the rear of V-2 and began CPR. Good Samaritans responded to V-2, extricated P-2 and began CPR. All involved were transported to local hospitals. The infant was life flighted to a children’s hospital where the infant was later pronounced deceased.

The #4 through #2 lanes were closed for approximately seven hours for the investigation.
CHP’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) arrived on scene to assist in this investigation. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
